Blessed are the Peacemakers

I always used to think that the peacemakers Jesus was talking about in his famous Sermon on the Mount were those who brought an end to conflict. But there are many reasons that people lose their peace. There are circumstances that make it hard to keep the peace in place. They all have awful and all-too-familiar names: Fear. Anxiety. Doubt. Worry. Sorrow. The Unknown. People struggling with these peace dispelling realities also need peacemakers. People who walk up and give a hug or squeeze a shoulder. People who take the kids out to play, who do the dishes, who put on the praise music as a constant soundtrack to the quotidian life. These people are peacemakers and I am thankful and blessed to have them in my life.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
